Assessment Guidelines
Task: You are requested to prepare a report, that will be your research proposal. You are welcome to use this research proposal and develop your dissertation during the “Developing as a Researcher Part 2” module.
You are advised to suggest a secondary data collection for your proposal, and not primary. This is because for the final module of this programme (Developing as a Researcher Part 2) you are not allowed to proceed with primary data collection, but only with secondary.
Based on the material covered in this module and by reviewing the existing literature and based on the applied business psychology, you are requested to identify a business psychology research problem and based on this, to develop your Research Proposal. Some indicative areas in business psychology that you can work for preparing your proposal are:
• Staff selection and assessment
• Training and development at work
• Human engineering / human factors
• Employee motivation, engagement and well-being at work
• Leadership and teamwork
• Organisational change and development
The structure of your research proposal should include the following:
1. Section 1: Research topic, aim and objectives (1100 words)
a. Based on the feedback given from the summative assessment point 1, elaborate on the proposed research topic and offer a clear rationale, along with an updated aim and objectives. In this section, you are requested to provide an appropriate background information on your chosen subject and to explain the rationale for selecting this research topic.
2. Section 2: Literature review (1900 words)
a. The literature review should analyse and synthesise relevant academic literature based on the chosen research topic.
b. In the literature review, you are requested to discuss how your proposed research problem will fit within existing published work.
c. You should gather a minimum of 20-30 sources of literature (mostly academic) related to your proposed research and analyse them to demonstrate how your research will attempt to add to existing knowledge. You should compare and contrast the sources and make relevant connections to your proposed research. Keep in mind that you should paraphrase the sources (and appropriately cite and reference the sources) and synthesize the potential contribution of these works to your research. Your literature review should not be presented as a ‘list’ of articles.
3. Section 3: Methodology, methods and ethical considerations (1400 words)
a. Identify and justify a research methodology appropriate to your proposed research
b. Identify and justify research methods and data appropriate to your proposed research
c. Identify key ethical considerations relevant to your proposed research
i. You should outline your research methodology in this section. Consider your epistemological perspective and how it influences your research design. You should also discuss your data collection methods, as well as the sorts of data you will collect for your research and their sources. You should be able to support your methodology and methods selection by referring to your research aim and objectives. You should
also comment on your research’s feasibility and capacity to obtain the necessary data. Finally, this section should discuss the ethical implications (if any) of your findings.

4. Section 4: Research Schedule / Plan (600 words)
a. Introduce a provisional project schedule/ plan for your proposed research project
i. In this section, you should outline the key milestones for completing your research project and propose the length of time that each milestone will require to complete. It would be best if you tried to be as realistic as possible and consider things like work schedules and busy periods at work as well as holidays and other breaks. It will be helpful to present your schedule/plan on a table listing the milestones, the duration of each milestone, as well as a brief note for each milestone that will offer a description of the role of the milestone in the process and a justification for the assigned duration, including any concerns, contingency plans, or limitations to completing the milestone
