Task Summary<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/h2>\n

For this assessment you are required to develop an AI agent which is able to solve a difficult, real-world case study. The assessment is individual in nature and you should submit both your programs and any supporting documents. For more details on how to carry out this task, please see the Task Instructions. This assessment is meant to test:<\/span><\/p>\n

  • Your ability to formulate and frame a simplified real-world problem for an AI problem solving technique.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Your ability to choose a suitable AI technique for the problem.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Your ability to develop an AI problem solving technique in a modern programming language.<\/span><\/li>\n
  • Your ability to provide a document to discuss the potential applications and ethics of the AI solution.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Context<\/b><\/p>\n

    The aim is to develop a robot path planner that determines an optimal path to reach a target. Completing this assessment will demonstrate your ability to apply effective AI techniques to solve a simplified real-world problem.<\/span><\/p>\n

    The maze is shown in the image below. It has 12 rows and 24 columns, totaling 288 blocks. There are four types of blocks in this map as follows:<\/span><\/p>\n

      \n
    • Green: wall<\/span><\/li>\n
    • White: space (void)<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Red: initial position of the robot<\/span><\/li>\n
    • Blue: the target<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      In this assessment, you need to design and implement a robot path planner. Additionally, note your learning facilitator will give you the type and name of the search or optimization algorithms that you have to implement. Furthermore, the learning facilitator might ask you to work on a randomly generated maze as well. However, you do not have to draw a maze like the picture above.<\/span><\/p>\n

      You can simply mark the shortest path obtained by your algorithm using for instance 2 (or any other numbers except 1, 0, -1, and 9) in the 2D array. If you draw the maze, however, it will be a lot easier to visualise the path and make sure that it is the closest path to the target when you are testing your program.<\/span><\/p>\n

      By implementation, we mean to write the steps that should be taken to find the shortest path from the initial position to the target as a pseudocode.<\/span><\/p>\n

      When the project has been implemented, a reflective report on the development process should be written. The report must be about 2000 words, with a length that is plus or minus 10 per cent, and it should include the following sections.<\/span><\/p>\n

      • What went wrong<\/span><\/li>\n
      • What you are not sure about<\/span><\/li>\n
